Caching while spliting a large file
Hi

The scenario is like this.

I need to split 5 files having size 3GB, 2GB, 4GB, 30GB and 20 GB respectively.

The machine has 15GB heap space. Before starting split proces it was showing 15gb free space. Once the split process completed it showed 100 mb free and around 12GB cached.

My doubt is why that much of memory got cached during split process. and Can I release the cached memory even if the process has been running?

How do you check this?

The OS is Linux

Configuration is like this
Linux pi941c2n13 2.6.9-42.18.ELmsdw2smp #1 SMP Tue Nov 7 16:55:04 EST 2006 x86_64

I have checked using top and free both before and after the exceution of process.
