UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

OK, I have read several things on how to do this, but can't make it work. I am writing this to a vi file then calling it as an awk script.

So I need to search a file for duplicate lines, delete duplicate lines, then write the result to another file, say /home/accountant/files/docs/nodup

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Have you tried using 'sort -u' ?

For example:

sort -u oldfile.txt > nodup.txt

yrs

I didn't; however, I found an interesting way to make it work in the forum. I am to create an alias that makes this happen as if I were setting up commands for a company. So what I ended up doing was making an alias of awk '!arr[$0]++' and wrote comments about how to include the filename > filename after the command. Thank you for your help!!
