.profile has been replaced and need to get the older version

Hi All,

.profile has been replaced with a new one. I need to know the variables used in the older version of .profile. I have a session opened using the old .profile.
Is there a way that I can get the exact file.

I had some luck by using set command. But is there any way that I can get the whole profile.

Thanks
Shash

Well there is env, alias you could give a try...
But surely you have a backup no?

Thanks Vbe. I can make use of it. I wanted to know whether I can get back exact .profile.

There is a problem with the backup and they are not able to replace the .profile as this is a development box.

Thanks

Maybe a collegue has the profile you are looking for? have you no .profile.old? I never replace a file without making a copy and am sure Im not the only one...they could be called .bak .sav .<dateof change>...

Well we all use the same login id as this is to do with a batch and this has been messed up by a member of other team and they haven't taken a backup.

Problem here is the paths and compiler used for compiling C programmes. Smilie

Thanks

env, set and alias are only ways through which you can grab the variables set by you through .profile.... ( setenv also in case of c shell ) ... take the output of these commands in one file.. use sed or something to format it according to the shell you are using ..
