How can I tell which network card is which?

I have three network cards in my unix box. I need to figure out which card corresponds to an assigned IP address. If there some command in unix I can use to make an ethernet interface blink?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Why dont you just plug 2 of the 3 in and look at ifconfig to see which one says its not connected.

It would be difficult to remove the cards as the machine has to be live. It is running a flavour of Linux on a standard PC.....

Not unplug the "Card" just unplug the ethernet cable and see which goes "down".
