Since you are using ksh, read the DOSKey info on the link on the post made earlier.

hi, i cant do a esc - '-' on a solaris machine.. no problems with aix and hpux. please advice.. thanks

Check that you are setting your profile correctly. The post mentioned has to be read in full.

Look for: set -o vi (in ksh)
