Modem problems on SCO Xenix

Randomly receive the following message:
"Can not open line tty1a device busy error 16"
and
"/etc/getty/t60 tty1a"
What is causing this error message ?

tty unavailable?

Either that tty is being used and it can't be released for the modem or it doesn't exist in your /dev directory. Check to see if a tty by that name exists.

Do a "ps -aef |grep tty1a" or a "who -a |grep tty1a" and see what has that tty.
