help with a script

I need to make a script that gets the file in the current directory with the biggest size, and say a message blah blah biggest size is, and file is (filename)

i know i would need to use variables but im not sure how to do that,

also i know i would use a if statement, with awk utility to grab the file size column in ls -l, maybe use grep somewhere to search, but how do i put all the file sizes in a variable, i dont know how to use variables is what im trying to say.

Hammer & Screwdriver See the following as I build to your answer

Lists files, sorted from biggest to smallest
Code:
> ls -l | grep "^-" | sort -k5nr

Gives info just on the largest file
Code:
> ls -l | grep "^-" | sort -k5nr | head -1

Creates an output message
Code:
>ls -l | grep "^-" | sort -k5nr | head -1 | awk '{print "File "$9" is the largest at "$5}'
File file27 is the largest at 1102

ok thanks i appreciate your help but i have to use variables, is there another way to do it with variables?

i dont know how i would use variables but like get the size of the files into variables and use a if statement to find out the highest, then just echo the variables.

yes this is for one of my classes, i already gave the concept of how to do it, you dont even have to do it for me if thats the case, i just want to know how to do variables, just show me another script that uses variables in the way i need it, and i can figure out the rest.
