UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I've noted that in order to use commands like ifconfig, I have to prefix the commands with the directory.

/etc/profile shows that the paths should be part of the PATH environment variable; any idea where the bug is?

does not include /sbin

EUID in this script evaluates to the effective user id. Whem you sudo your change your effective id, for example.

What is in the .bashrc file or .profile file in your home directory.

You also need to check the files in this loop

ls -l /etc/profile.d/*.sh will show you what files are executed Look for files you can read/execute.
