Question Some questions!

You want to erase the operating system or only one disk and add another ?
What kind of unix operating system you use?
Is it sparc or x86 hardware?

If it's a straight replacement, rip out the old harddisk and stick in the new ... then use the install CD (or such) of your prefered UNIX and away you go!

If you have *sensitive* information which must be rmoved first, I guess you could always run the dreaded command as root:

rm -rf /

Be warned ... THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING IT FINDS!!!

Actually, I would recommend a low-level format at least seven times to delete any real sensitive information. At least, that was what was recommended when I worked for a DoD contractor.

use /dev/zero

There is a device file on most systems called /dev/zero. It is exactly what it seems a file of zeros! If it is not there you should be able to create it.

If you write this file to the Harddrive it should do the trick. And I would do it seven times for completeness!!

I don't know if this is supported on all systems...Smilie

EDIT HERE::

I would put your OS on the small original disk and keep all other filesystems and data on the other large disk. This way if your OS dies you can just replace that one disk and reinstall without losing data. Smilie
