Moving Users?

I'm in the process of replacing a server in my nework. The old server has approx. 50 users.

What is the easiest way to build those users on the new server? Can I just copy the /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files and copy the users' home dirs over or is there more to it than that?

Thanks,
leond

What is the OS and version of the old and new servers?
Are these UNIX accounts you are talking about or accounts inside an application?

You would also have to consider the home directories (if UNIX) -
if it's on it's own disk then you could possibly move the disk to the new server or just tar it all up and put the files on the new server.

Both the OS and version are the same; they're both running Solaris 7. Also, it's only the UNIX accounts; I'm taking care of the application accounts seprately.

Moving /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow will work - make sure any accounts already on the new server don't get overwritten by saving a copy of both ( on the new server).
