Lightbulb UNIX/Linux Distributions on VMware Workstation 6?

Which distributions are known to have great performance, but also excellent ease of use and compatibility on VMware Workstation 6? I have 2GB of real RAM in my system and Windows Vista Home Premium as a host operating system. I can almost always get away with alotting up to 1GB of RAM for my virtual machines and still have a stable system.

What would you recommend and if you also use VMware 6, how exactly did you configure VMware to run UNIX/Linux? More specifically, I am looking to run various flavors of Linux & BSD on VMware 6.

BTW, I am new here and this is my very first post! Smilie

My current laptop runs Vista Ultimate. I run Solaris, OpenSolaris and a number of Linux and BSD OSs under VMware Workstation 6 without any problem. Performance is not an issue.
