Problem with mail

Hello!

I have to servers with Solaris 2.7.
I mail from first to second ( mailx user@dev < letter ).
But mail not arrive to second. It return by daemon with explanation:

....
--- Transcript of session follows ---
550 5.1.2 user@dev... Host unknown (Name server: mailhost.serv.dom: host not found)
....

"ping dev" - work without any problem.
dev written in /etc/hosts. There is no DNS adjusted (no resolv.conf, etc)
telnet dev 25 - work without any problem also (I can send mail through smtp by the hand, using protocol)

I tried sendmail -d , and in the output it said that can't resolv "dev".
When I try to use exact ip -address , all like with "dev".

Thank you.

Please post the following information from your system:

output from /usr/lib/sendmail -d0.1 -bt < /dev/null

Sendmail will normally use DNS for host lookups (even if nsswitch.conf is set up to do lookups from files first). If possible, set up your /etc/resolv.conf and insure both servers are in DNS.

If the output of the command I asked you to run shows something like this:

% /usr/lib/sendmail -d0.1 -bt < /dev/null
Version 8.11.6
Compiled with: MAP_REGEX LOG MATCHGECOS MIME7TO8 MIME8TO7 NAMED_BIND
NDBM NETINET NETUNIX NEWDB NIS NISPLUS QUEUE SCANF SMTP USERDB
XDEBUG

============ SYSTEM IDENTITY (after readcf) ============
(short domain name) $w = unix
(canonical domain name) $j = unix.mycom.com
(subdomain name) $m = mycom.com
(node name) $k = unix
========================================================

ADDRESS TEST MODE (ruleset 3 NOT automatically invoked)
Enter <ruleset> <address>
>

then it was configured to use DNS.
