UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I am installing Red Hat Linux using DISK DRUID to partition my hard drive. After partitioning all of the partitions except the last partition, let say I have 682m left unused on my hard drive, so I partion the last one and with 682m and using the option "use all space up to(MB)" 682 and it's going through the installation process. Once everything is finish, I looked at the partition and I got all of the partion right except this:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
none 62m 0 61m 0% /dev/shm


The questions here is why I have this partion in here. Seem to me that I didn't use all of the space available, but I did tell Linux to use all of the space up to the max.

What did I do wrong, could someone please advise me on this issue???

/dev/shm is not a real filesystem, it is a shared memory segment used internally by some processes. RH7.3 will create this partition whether you want it or not. (btw, you do want it -- dont remove it unless you know what you are doing)

actually you don't care about this if you read the installation procedure before you installed. usually we are going to mount 1000MB space on /(root), the output may slight larger than you given, so does the same, it's may left some space unused(only a portion) even though you used up hard disk spaces...
