Hi,

Anyone encounter whereby when you FTP from an Unix server (Solaris 8) to another server (Window Server 2003), you tend to wait a long while when you do a "ls" and you get a timeout after that. However, when you FTP again and do a "ls", the result of "ls" shown immediately. All connection are running on 100FD. Pls kindly advice if you encounter such problem as mine :P

Could be some problem with DNS resolution or entries in the /etc/hosts. Had something like this when there were 2 entries for one server in DNS but one entry was simply pointing to a wrong IP-Address. So sometimes it worked, sometimes not.
Maybe check that and have a look into netstat -i on your adapters if there are any errors counting up.
And try the ftp from another box to the Win 2003 box to check if they have the same problem.

There's no collision or error on netstat -i

No repeated entries on the /etc/hosts too.

Other Solaris server can ftp to the window server without any problem. However only servers in x.x.49 subnet encounter such problem. The switch has also hardcode 100FDX. Not sure where is the problem lies.

what mode are u using in ftp? active or passive?

try passive mode , you wont get any error that you have mentioned.

Use the ftp command "status".
