chmod

Hi,

can anybody help me?

i have probable a simple problem about permissions.
i have a server and on this server there comes some files from a another server via ftp with a separte user.

i would like to modify the files with a awk script but i donīt have the permissions to modify the files.

i there any solution to make a chmod via a script ( example with root or with the separte user?)

chmod works the same within a script as it does from the command line. You have two options..you can either have the permissions changed before the file is ftp'd across (so that your users is able to access).....or you can change the permissions once they arrive on your server....but to do this you'd need to be the user that transferred them...or root.

If you can be root...... then you can do this from the command line with 'chmod 666 filename' (or instead of the filename user '*' for all files at that location - careful with this one)- will grant read and write access to these...you might want to look at chown as well....but you'll have to look that one up for yourself. Can't give you all the answers!

Thanks peter.herlihy

Thanks for your reply.

i have some experience with the chmod but i canīt make a script that will makes the chmod automaticily.

i try it with a simple script that means go to this spezified directory and make a chmod 777 with all files with the extension ......

i didnīt get a error message if i try it over the crontab
the next message that i get is the the awk script canīt run because there are no permissions on the files.

Thanks again

What permissions are actually on the file after the crontab has run?
