HI

What is sticky bit?

how can be see if the sticky bit for file is set?

WHat is meaning of sticky bit set on Directory?

What is the syntax to set the sticky bit? With example

You can answer whenever you want. Hope that convinces Smilie . I am not having any deadline.
I am just asking because its a dummy section and these questions shot up in my mind and i believe lots of experts are here who can just move their fingers and end these questions in my mind.

It would be better, if u let us know what u know about sticky bit.
Then one can enlarge that.

Well, not for Sticky Bits, but some of your other questions today can be answered by using the man command. man is an online user manual designed to give the syntax, usage and examples of all shell commands.

man [command]

I want a file I create to not be deletable by other users so I created a sticky bit by chmod 1644 on the file. chown'd it to root and then tried to delete (via GUI drag to trash and empty) as a non root user and it let me. is sticky bit only good for terminal deletes or something? (4 Replies)
