UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I'm trying to setup Redhat 7.0 on a Dell Latitude C600/C610. Only thing I can't get to work is the damn graphics resolution. It's all configured correct apart from that.

What it is when I type 'startx' the resolution is huge. Shows about a quater of the screen resolution because of this.

I've tried writing the /etc/X11/XF86config and /etc/X11/XF86config-4 files but I can't seem to get them correct. If anyone has done this before please help. Or atleast know of where I could find something on how to set the resolution.

When your are still in Text mode, try to go to Xconfiguratior $ xconfigurator or might be $ setup, either one and go to the resolution settings. You may want to autoprobe your LCD device of your Dell Latitude. If it is succesfull, you can set your X Resolution to somewhere around 1024x768 or 1280x1264 Etc. I use 1024x768 on my IBM T20 Works well with me.. give a try post the result. If the Resolution doesnt get compatible try to go to much more lesser volume of X Resolution. Im sure you can play around with it.
