Network Great.

Sorry; I wasn't specific enough before. After fink is up and running, you can browse through the available packages. After typing "+" while a simple package, such as gzip, is selected, and then hitting return, fink takes you back to the main menu, with "Install" highlighted; hitting return here initiates the installation protocol, but the program doesn't actually install anything. How do you tell fink to install something? Note: I have a Masters Degree in techincal communication; the fink documentation is *NOT* good enough.

chenly, I suppose you've used one of Fink's binary package installers. They are not very polished and I actually never use them.

Just use source compile and installation: 'fink install <package-name>', read 'man fink' and visit the online docs at http://fink.sourceforge.net

Bear in mind that compilation of the X11 stuff will take sometime, but you'll get used to it.

It's far easier that it sounds, there's even KDE support now!

Lightbulb FinkCommander

FinkCommander is a Cocoa GUI for fink; it works great. BTW, I did eventually get fink running via CLI, but it's much easier to keep track of what it's doing graphically. Thanks, everyone!
