What seems to be the trouble? Maybe we can help if you let us know where you are stuck.

It may not be Solaris, possibly a hardware incompatibility.

There wasn't necessarily a problem with loading. I am getting ready to buy a laptop and needed to know which brand might be the most compatible with the Solaris 8 platform.Smilie

Never done it but I have looked right into it.

To start with a standard laptop with a Intel chip wont load Solaris for Sparc on it. Just letting people know the basics Smilie

Ok here's the go with Solaris 8 for intel on a laptop.

DON'T BOTHER!!!~!!~!

Sorry to say that but truely if you can get it working I would like to know what you asked about the specs of the laptop so I can do it.

See with Intel and Solaris 8 (reason I say Solaris 8 i because that's the most common used Solaris for Intel) it's not like a Soalris machine. Well DUH! you say, but due to the fact of the amount of different drivers and cards you can get on a Intel it's hard to find the right ones that'll go with Solaris 8 on a Intel chip base.

I have spoken to people who know there stuff at Sun. Also spoken to other people around. Now most of them say they have never done it but they would say that the graphics card would be the hardest thing to setup. If you can get teh graphics card working well that should make the install a hell of alot easier.

Drivers are the hardest thing to find for doing this.

Also last point Sun no longer supports Solaris 8 for Intel chips anymore. They say it's costing them to much money. So don't think support will be easy to find either. Well from Sun anyway.

I disagree with post as above. I do believe Solaris 8 to be/can run on Laptop platform (Intel). Check this website's for more information.

Finnaly for more advanced method of compatibility try to check the h/ware requirements. Thats the best way.

If you seems the above cant to define the situation, simply surf the web google for instance for forums or news on how some guys install solaris succesfully on a laptop.
