Network Modem Volume
Specs:
Dlink DFE-560EL external modem.
RedHat 7.1

How do you turn off the modem volume? I am getting annoyed of it beeping everytime I use it but there is no switch on the hardware to tune down the volume.

I have tried using minicom and use the following commands:
ATL0
ATM0

Next, I tried using my modem... no beeps... I logged out of the terminal.

After a while, I tried dialing to it again, the beeping recurs....

Chances are that the modem string to dial out is using ATZ or AT&F to reset the settings on the modem in the init string, overwriting your ATM0 commands.

You need to find the init string used to dial out and insert the M0 or L0 string so that the modem will not emit tones when dialing.

I figured it out already. Just modified some configs in mgetty. hehe.
