terminal

Hi there,

Does anyone know what exactly is the different between a terminal and a console ?

My understanding is a console is normally a local session while a terminal can be a remote as well.

What do you think guys?

Thanks

Yes a terminal is remote, and console is the actual system monitor/console.

Do a "ps -aef |grep console" If your console is logged on the box, it will show up. Like the following.

root 23832 1 0 Apr 20 console 0:00 /usr/sbin/getty console console

Now do a "ps -aef |grep tty". This will show all users logged on remotely. " who -a" will show their address.

Do a man on tty and console. I think it will help you greatly.
