newline character

hi,
I want to print the below lines

"Message from bac logistics
The Confirmation File has not been received."

When i give like this in the code

"Message from bac logistics\n The Confirmation File has not been received."

It is giving only
Message from bac logistics\n The Confirmation File has not been received.

how to put it in second line

thanks in advance

What are you using to print?

ant:/home/vbe $ cat gigi
echo "Message from bac logistics\nThe Confirmation File has not been received."

ant:/home/vbe $ sh gigi
Message from bac logistics
The Confirmation File has not been received.

Yeah, I'm also facing a similar sort of a situation.
Here is a demo line from my script:
var=$x"\n"$y
When i echo $var i am getting
Hello
There
But when I am passing this variable var as an argument to a Java program then it is receiving something like this
Hello\nThere
I tried replacing \n with System.getProperty("line.separator") but to no avail.

Tried it ... but the same problem Smilie

Works for me on linux and solaris

I am on a Sun OS 5.8 platform ... echo -e does not seem to work here.
