if test case in korn shell
hi,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am not too familiar with scripting so I will be spending a lot of time here.

I am trying to understand a ksh script.


NSCA=/bin/send_nsca

if [[ -e "$NSCA" ]]


What does the -e check for?

The shell's internal functions are documented on its manual page. -e is an existence test; it checks if a file by that name exists. There is a bunch of these weird one-character options (really basically subcommands) to the test command which are perplexing at first.

Thanks a lot.

I will probably encounter more of these test conditions.

So instead of me asking every one of them does anyone have a webpage that will display all of these for the korn shell and bourne shell?

The best way to find out what options are supported is to use the man command i.e. man ksh, man sh, etc.
