how do i display just the first line of a file with the cat command or any command for that matter

how would u print out a spcific line only, like line 2

sed -n 2p your_file_name
# 5  
Old 04-18-2002
if you wanted to pull out a line that had a specific word in it, you can use grep.


grep someword myfile

Of course this will give you every line in a file that has that word in it.
