when i issued the command df -k all i see is info from (ad0s1a, ad0s1f, ad0s1e), devices which is the hard drive but nothing from floppy drive device rfd0. So what could be wrong, what did i do wrong ? please help.!!!

See if you can mount the floppy drive. Check the man page on mount (and also see if there is an automated mount daemon - it may be under vold - check your man pages).

It may be that your floppy drive isn't mounted automatically.

When I do a df -k I get:

The floppy was mounted automatically by vold (Solaris 2.6)

when i do df -k
all i got is:

/dev/ad0s1a 49583 26929 18688 59% /
/dev/ad0s1f 3949125 185473 3448622 5% /usr
/dev/ad0s1e 19815 107 18123 1% /var
procfs 4 4 0 100% /pro

i believed the above are the hard drive partitions.

First mount the floppy...

mount floppy: mount /dev/fd0 /mnt
...or...
mount DOS floppy: mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt


...next copy the file...

cp /mnt/rfd0/mytext.tar /tmp/mytext.tar

...don't forget to unmount the floppy...

umount /mnt

Darn.... i feel so stupid
Now .. that i can mount the rf0 device which is floppy drive A. But when i issued copy command as follows:

cp /mnt/rfd0/mytext.tar /tmp/mytext.tar

it give me a message like...... No such file or directory.
I know i have created tmp directory...and on the floppy it contains mytext.tar which i have checked.
hmm.... what's wrong ???

My mistake ...

I just copied your "cp" command...

It should just be...

cp /mnt/mytext.tar /tmp/mytext.tar

Since the floppy is mounted on /mnt,
if you were to "cd" to /mnt then do
an "ls", you should see everything in the
root directory of the floppy.
