Well, if you happen to be the unix administrator, you could front-end the finger command with a little script. Just tested out OK for me. I renamed /bin/finger to /bin/fingerACTUAL, then installed my script to /bin/finger:

Code:
#/bin/sh
# finger front-end script
expr "$*" : ".*jboothe.*" > /dev/null &&
  echo `date;whoami` >> /tmp/finger.log
fingerACTUAL "$*"
exit $?

You need to allow for "finger user1 user2 user3". If your username appears in the parameter list, it will append to a log file. It does not delimit the search string in any way, so if you are looking for jdoe, you would also get jdoe2 etc.

Passing the parameters as $@ might be more appropriate??? It exits with the status code that fingerACTUAL returns.

There may be issues that I am not aware of, so I must say use at your own risk.

Any other suggestions?

Try taking your unix administrator out to lunch. Smilie
