UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Ok I've lost myself and hit a brick wall.

What I am trying to do is avoid the login screen when the machine is turned on. So no login screen is needed unless you turn the machine on and log out to login and change users. But as I said before I've hit a brick wall. I got not an idea of what I can do to make this work.

I so far have looked into the .dtprofile in there I have worked out somehere it calls something else. Got no idea but that would be the file I am after. Does anyone know where/what the file is I would need to re write in order for me to be able to get a auto login?

If anyone knows how to create a auto login thx in advacne for the help.

Also I am trying to do this on a Solaris 7 machine.

I've looked into the .dtprofile but I meant to say S99dtlogin. I think what I want to do has something with that!

Can you clarify what you want to do. Do you want to prevent the CDE login after the system has booted? Or do you want to prevent the lock screen?

Prevent the CDE login screen after a boot. Make it so it bypasses that and logs straight into a user.

You can not do that, you can only change the run level. That will take you to graphical or text environment depending your selection. You must login before you begin. Unix is a multiuser system. I haven't heard this before but I am pretty sure that if you wanna do it, you have to go through major changes of the system which sounds very risky to me/

I like to start out by saying that I'm not a master at UNIX. I think you can stop the auto login with " dtconfig -d "command. To my understanding you will stop the Xlogin Manager which will stop the auto login screen. But NOTE that this means, whoever the user is will have root permission . I think form here you would have to start a script inorder to setup a user Xsession. I think all the files that you will need is located in /usr/dt/config. Look at "dtlogin.rc" file. I think this is what you're look for. I hope that the information I gave you helps. GOOD LUCK
