selected columns exctract

Hi all,

I have 50 columns are there, want to exctract 9 columns only.These are not there in sequence.

How can i do it.

awk is generally a good tool to use on this type of problem.

Hi Ashok,

U can use "cut" command to extract the columns. Its quite handy so u wont have any prob.
Check dis out:
If file contans

A|123|NAME1
A|123|NAME2
B|123|NAME3

U need only the first two cols den:

bash-2.03$ cut -f 1,2 -d'|' abc1
A|123
A|123
B|123

Just check it out. U can use dis command as per ur needs...
revert back incase of any issue...
