UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi There

I am pretty new to UNIX and have only been using it from a basic point of view,I now want to start using it and learning more , have got a whole lot of books and documentation from the web and am slowly learning.I have written a get script in windows :-

lcd E:\MAIN\PRO\FILES\MAINDB
o "ipaddress"
user "login" "passwd"
pwd
hash
prom
bin
mget prossfile.*
bye
close

My script works good (ok i guess) ,but I am sure it could be better ,I was wondering how to delete in this case the file "prossfile.hen" off the SCO server?
currently I go in after the FTP and manually delete it.

Add "mdel prossfile.*
after your mget statement.

If that not work, try "rm prossfile.* instead.

consider adding "cd SomeFolder/Subfolder" right after your login, to ensure you are in the correct folder on the remote host.

lcd is on the host your are working from. (local change directory)

When I code a FTP script - my main script will call a GetSource routine, then it will do something with what I got ( copy, rename, calc, whatever) and then call a CleanUpSrc script if no errors are detected.
Because, if there are errors, and you already deleted the file, then you have more issues to deal with.
