how to give link to new install automake

helo , i m using RHEL 4 and in that automake -2.59
now i install automake-2.61
but when i say # rpm -qa |grep automake
it shows only automake-2.59
actually i want to use automake-2.61
so how to resolve this issue

hello,

automake 1.10
1. tar -zxvf
2. cd automake 1.10
3. ./configure
4. make
5. make install

ah, rather than install a new RPM.

That's the problem, RPM only knows about RPM packages, if you just start installing software willy-nilly RPM will know nothing about it.

It depends what you think the problem is...

If it's

(a) RPM reports the wrong version, then find a new RPM and install that. You may want to look in the makefile you just ran to see if it has an uninstall or remove.

or

(b) when you run automake you get the wrong version then find the path that the new one was installed on and put that path earlier in your path.
