Help analysing progress of a log file

Is it possible to track the progress of a job (informatica) by analysing the progress of it's log file ? I have a long running job, and no way of tracking how far allong it is. Thanks.

If you want to monitor a log file as it grows, use tail
Code:
tail -f /path/to/logfile

...or, were you looking for a more detailed log parsing / alerting tool?

Cheers

I was thinking more along the lines of catching words using a previous run to gauge how far through the job is....I guess parsing is what I am looking for ?
