Hi,

In sun solaris you can use dos2unix command. it will remove the all special character from your text file.

dos2uni <text file>

also works in vi
vi <filename>
then use the command
:%s/^M//g

to get a ^M use CTL-V then CTL-M

CTL-V tells vi to take the next command literally.

Hi,

The best solutions is for remove the ^M character and all special character in UNIX. you can use the DOS2UNIX command.

Eg:

if i want to remove the special character from input file. you can use the following command

DOS2UNIX <input_file>

Or Else...you can use the replace command first then you can use the DOS2UNIX command..

sed -i -e "s/^M/' '/g" input_file

the above command replaced the ^M character by ' ' single empy space. then you can use the DOS2UNIX command to remove the ' ' single space.

DOS2UNIX <input_file>

Let me know if you have any questions...
