Question What training resources do people use?
Out of curiosity, what training resources would people recommend for beginners to UNIX/scripting?
Do you find forums such as these are better than books in providing help as and when? Or do you think more formal training is better?

Read the man pages. Read some of the many web pages on shell scripting. I have a list of good resources at http://cfaj.freeshell.org/shell/resources.shtml.

The best resource I have found is the Usenet newsgroup, comp.unix.shell.
