Changing Network Interface hme1 to hme0

I have sun solaris 9 installed but I have the interface configured to hme1 instead of hme0, our default value.
Is there a way where i can rename the existing/working hme1 to hme0...?
I want to showup the hmeo up if i say ifconfig -a..
rite now i see the hme1 up..
please advice if possible...

Presumably your machine has two ethernet ports and you want to use the other ethernet port?

As an example, I have a SPARCstation which has both le0 and le1. le0 was configured by the OS install but I wanted to use le1.

All I needed to do was rename /etc/hostname.le0 to /etc/hostname.le1 and reboot.

If this is the scenario, then renaming /etc/hostname.hme1 to /etc/hostname.hme0 and rebooting should do the trick.

It would, though the reboot can be avoided by using ifconfig.

i can make a reboot...thats fine..so is this renaming final or do we need to edit any other files...?
so how do we do with ifconfig ..?

Rename the file, change the port the cable is connected to and reboot...done.
