How do I find where line 468 is?

I am getting the error and need to know an easy way to find a line number.

m1[421]: syntax error at line 468 : `'' unmatched

Is there a command or utility that will provide line numbers for my scripts when troubleshooting?

Thanks,

In VI, or your favorite VI clone, issue the command ":set number" and the line numbers will appear on the left hand side of the screen. You can also go directly to that line number by hitting "468G" (line number followed by captial G).

That's all it takes!

you can also do (in VI's command mode)

:468

VI does not use capital G (dunno about the other editors though)

All I do is open the script in VI and type the following...

[line-number - 1] and 'j'

For example: Open script -> type '467j'

Gets me to the line with the problem - no problem. Smilie

If you do not use colon to specify a command, you can specify the line number followed by a captial G to go directly to the line number. Worked for both vi and elvis under OpenBSD 2.9.

A captial G by itself will take you to the last line of the file and 1G will take you to the first line of the file.

MySQL

Thanks for all the replies.

I also would just use "468G", but I would like to also mention that you can do ":set number" to display lines numbers. And ":set nonumber" will turn them off.
