Question Solaris and NT/Win2k HP Printers Help

I'm currently trying to setup a Solaris machine to use a couple of HP printers. The printers are connected using jetdirect to printservers ( 1 NT and 1 Win2k). I've tried adding access using the admintool but when I try and print the print fails with the error msg : error transferring print job.

Thanx

The JetDirects should be able to handle direct LP requests from your unix box. Just set up a print queue on your UNIX box that points to the IP address of the JetDirect devices.

Question

I've tried to connect directly using the IP address of the HP printer but don't know how to set up the print queue on my unix machine. Do I use the admintool ? and if so how.

Thanx

You can use Admintool to add printers. Call it whatever you want it to be, then when it asks you for the printer's hostname, give it the IP address, and when it asks you for queue name, put anything in there (The JetDirects don't care about queue name)

What do I enter as the value for the print server entry ?

Select "Edit" -> "Add" -> "Access to Printer"

Then for "Printer Name" call it what you want it to be known as on the system. For "Print Server" put in the IP address of the JetDirect card (or hostname if you have that... sorry.. that's what I meant when I mentioned hostname before)
