Assuming you're installing Oracle 9i, look here:
http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/...ix_install.pdf

If you're looking for something else, chances are - they'll have it there.

If you don't have an OTN user/password, you sign up for one free at http://otn.oracle.com

Go ahead and waste the paper to print it out... you'll be happy you did later...

Computer Setting up Unix for Oracle at home

I have been planning to set up a Unix workstation at home to host an Oracle database just for practice. I don't know enough about hardware to know whether I can install a unix OS on a regular desktop and the hardware config. required. If someone could help guide me in this mission I would be forever grateful. Thank you in advance. Smilie
Peace.

As long as you have the diskspace, most likey yes. Oracle has fairly high requirements listed, but if it's only going to be you using it, you should be able to get away with an average desktop system.

It may be a little slow, but once again, if it's only you, you can get away with it.

LivinFree,
Thank you for your advice. I guess the machine i have will do. Can I have Oracle and SQL Server on one Unix platform? Or do I need to partition the drive for two OS systems. I really don't know much about partitioning. Smilie

It looks like this discussion got fragmented... I actually just replied to this general question over <a href="https://www.unix.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3439">here</a>...
From here on out, let's keep the discussion over in the other thread for (my) sanity sake... Smilie

LivinFree,
Thank you. As you wish, we'll try to keep things a little more organized. Sorry about that. Smilie

Respectfully,
Toneman.
