Question Starting up

I have put together an old machine with a 386DX CPU (40MHz)
with 8Mb of RAM and a 160Mb hard disk. One guy told me that its still suitable for UNIX. Can enyone give me some hints on how to start?

very small linux
first of all you need to look for small linuxes (not normal distributions like suse, redhat etc.). you need to be very sure that the kernel has been compiled for an 386. linux should be able to run on this system. if i am right torvalds buitl linux on system like this system. http://www.linux.com/interact/links/...ibutions/Mini/ here you can find small linux version that is what you need.
