UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

There are soo many flavors of linux and i just cant choose/find the right linux for me...

PLEASE i have been looking for a while and I would like some help

also how WOULD you make it possible to run linux side by side with windows???

This has grub as Boot loader which will help u to have dual booting with windows

but u have to install windows first and then create a partition seperatly for linux in windows then do the ext3 and swap partitons on the created drive while installing FEDORA Core

I have windows installed then i lost you after that (sorry im a complete noobie (but i do know java and im learning c++ so at least thats a start)ohh and btw im not a noobie at windows just at linux)

Its simple
create a partion of around say 10 GB in Windows which is empty (as we will format it when we install linux as ext3 (as ext3 is linux file system as FAT32 or NTFS in windows ) and in linux we need to create a swap partition(which acts a virtuval RAM which is around twice to ur RAM)

then While installing linux it asks for the selection of Boot Loader -- which u have to choose as GRUB and it automatically detects ur windows and adds it to ur Boot loader which is the screen which alows u to choose to which OS u wish to enter

Load ur Windows CD and try it out but the data u have on the drive u r trying to make partion will be lost

U can even try Control Panel/Administratiive Tool/Computer Management/Storage/DiskManagement same data loss applies here too

and the best is to try some software like Partition Magic etc which create a partition without deleting and available data
