mount

Hi,

I'm new to unix.I would like to write a script to mount a server but mount is a root command and the user does not have permissions to mount.

Can anyone help?

You must be root to mount file systems on a machine.

Hi,

I know that I should be logged in as root, but if i want to run a script which mounts a server and the user is not root.....

I trie using the suid and sgid but am still blocked

In order to do that, your sys admin will have to have given you permission to use sudo or something like that to run the mount command with. Only the super-user is allowed to mount/umount filesystems.

With most kernels, suid and sgid do not work with shell scripts. So I agree with doeboy that you are going to need to use sudo to run your script.
