Sendmail question

Hello to all,

I configured sendmail on a solaris 9 system the same as another server that the one I configured will replace. I transferred all the required files from the original system to the new one as well ar the /var/mail directory. The sendmail daemon is running however when I try to connect to the server using my mail client (thunderbird) I get connection refused. Users can log into the system via ssh but get connection refused when pointing their email clients to the new server. The original system was setup as an IMAP mail server. Ehat do I need to do to resolve the connection refused error? Thank you.

Check the error logs to see what it thinks it's doing. Mail daemons have the apalling habit of just stopping and refusing to do anything until restarted, when there's the slightest thing wrong.

Thanks for your reply Corona688, I tried restarting the daemon to no avail and the logs are telling me nada......

I didn't suggest that restarting would make it work, as much as, unlike other daemons, mail daemons are perfectly happy to sit and do nothing instead of politely dying when given settings they think are bad.

See if you can increase the logging level, to get the mail daemon to tell you more.

My guess is that Solaris was configured (which is the default behavior in Solaris 9) to only accept connections on "localhost" (meaning the 127.0.0.1 address).
