environment variables in cdpath

CDPATH=.:/users/:/users/user1/:/users/user1/dir1/ is ok

but

CDPATH=.:$HOME/:$HOME/dir1/ fails
although $HOME=/users/user1

why?

How does it "fail"? Can you cut-and-paste the error you are seeing?

Also,
Code:
CDPATH=.:$HOME/:$HOME/dir1/

expands to
Code:
.:/users/user1/:/users/user1/dir1/

,

which does not include /users/ in the CDPATH.

1st one is ok for cd dir2,
but 2nd one fails when i do cd dir2

and the error message is:
ksh: dir2: not found
