How to FTP an excel format file located in windows to unix using shell script.Any particular commands we have to use?

Suppose your filepath at windows machine is D:\test.xls and IP address of UNIX FTP server is 192.168.0.1, you can try following commands at Windows command prompt:

ftp 192.168.0.1
Provide Login name, then password, then
ftp>put d:\test.xls test.xls

Above command will put test.xls in home directory of login you provided.

Moving excel docs to UNIX? Not sure why you need to do that unless you have a UNIX tool to read them.

The only way you can succesfully move the excel file back and forth is to set the ftp enviorment to "binary" before you execute your get or put commands.
Just simply enter the word "binary" at the ftp prompt...

Thanks for the reply.what my requirement is approver will get a mail of a file in excel format. if he approves this will be saved in a particular path in windows.then this has to be ftp'd to unix and load data into table using loader.

so , i want to do it using a shell i.e FTP and loading data.so that i can submit this request through the form.

No offense, but this project is going to be difficult. What if they use a just slightly different arrangement of cells? What if they put dollar signs in their numbers? Excel is no database.
