Network Issue between Linux and RedHat (both on VMWare)

Hi All

My first post so I hope it's ok.

I have VMware workstation 5.0.0 build-13124 on an XP professional box. Within the VMware environment I have two virtual systems. The first is a Red Hat Linux (3.2.2-5) box and the second is an XP Home (sp2) box. When setting up both virtual boxes I set the network configs to local host only and then configured each with a 10.10.10.x/24 network address. (The Linux box actually came with a different address but I edited it using gedit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0) I have done an /sbin/ifconfig and made sure the IP info is correct. I have also verified the IP settings on the XP box.

I am sure I have made a config error on the Linux box as my problem is I can ping the Linux box from the XP box - but can't ping the XP box from the Linux box. Traceroute from the Linux box also doesn't show any hops.

Any suggestions as too easy stuff I can check on the Linux side (please quote complete commands as I am a total FNG.)

I have had this virtual machine network set up working ok with just Windows boxes, so I'm fairly sure of the legitimacy of what I'm trying to do.

Many thanks for your time guys. BTW if any of you have done the SANs 504 (incident Handling) course - that's where the Red Hat virtual machine came from.
