Ubuntu Issue with selecting the text in gvim

Hi, I wanted to select the text in gvim using mouse for coping. some times it works fine and full text will be selected and copied to clipboard if it is like shown in first fig. Paste of the copied text can be done by clicking the middle mouse button.Issue with selecting the text in gvim-gvim-good-selectionjpg

But some times the text will be selected as underline as shown in this second image. It does not give the feel of selecting the text. Mainly only the first letter or first word of the text will be pasted if I click the mouse middle button. In this case, after selecting the text I had to go to Edit->copy and then Edit -> paste. Strangely this problem will go away if I close my VNC session and open it again. Issue with selecting the text in gvim-gvim-not-good-selectionjpg
Can somebody tell me how to avoid this problem without closing vnc viewer.

I suppose you do not use gvim to copy and paste but instead rely on native X-Windows facilities. In fact Middle-Click is what pastes in X by default (left button selects).

I suppose the difference in the part with the reverse video and the underlined part is just the standout mode of the terminal. To confirm this try opening another terminal and copy/select something from there. It should use reverse video to signify the selection.

I hope this helps.

The case you have mentioned is selecting the text in one file and selecting some other text in second file without deselecting in first file. In this case the text in first file shows as underlined and selected text in second file shows as normal(reverse video). But the problem I have mentioned is occurring even if I have selected some text from just one file. I must be doing something wrong or need to do some setting. I have seen many others facing the same problem.
