Could one say: putty = pterm?
Code:
putty --help
pterm option summary:

AFAIU: Putty is more like ssh (simplified saying) than like xterm.

ssh is a commandline utility. putty is certainly much closer to xterm than ssh. Its related utility plink would be closer to raw ssh.

But PUTTY does not have that feature. I suppose it's a slightly different class of beast -- it's a terminal emulator, it doesn't wrap an actual terminal object. This gives it some abilities an xterm doesn't have, and some limits xterm doesn't as well. It's also what makes it portable outside UNIX. I'm sure it'd be possible to add that option to PUTTY, but it wouldn't be portable.

To view its commandline options, see here.

If I want a script to run in a new window, then I clone a session (opens a new ssh connection with auto-login) and then run the script there rather than running a command that opens a new one.
I was refering to the example in the first post, like:
Code:
lxterminal -e ./script.sh

As in, how to execute a script a in a new window from the current session by command line.
Thought i could combine the two questions.

To me a terminal is still hardware.
I loved the HP 2644A. It not only had a great ergonomic keyboard, it also had built-in tape for personal off-line storage and could handle off-line editing and block transmissions (for editing while the server was down) and command line editing before csh and ksh offered this feature in the shell. My PS1 prompt is still dollar-sign backspace (which made command editing simple on this terminal since it disappears when you start typing the next command).

For a console, I've got a real IBM-3151 buried somewhere. It's our fall-back in case our Avocent Cyclades Server fails - which it never has. I think there is an HP console somewhere too, but haven't seen it for a few years now.

I did love the IBM-3270 terminals running through a Multiplexor (MUX) to room full of 3174s and two FEPs connected to IBM mainframes. Gosh, how old am I? Smilie
