Can't POP the mails off the server, the mailbox is corrupt!
First, please forgive me for my 2nd attempt to post in a Forum! And btw, the Code Tags tutorial has the fonts and the sizes, but when I am editing my post none of those fonts and sizes are not there!
Eudora gave error info, There has been an error transferring your mail.
and then the POP server [nancy@worf.yyy.com]
said: ERR Mail drop does not start with a From envelope line.
So I did this so I can open the mailboxes:
:
So I checked the mailboxes. Code:
# mutt -f elena and I get into her mailbox
mutt came up and it's fine. Code:
# mutt -f nancy and it says nancy is not a mailbox. So the Server is ok, it's My mailbox is corrupt,
it had to be a bad email in my mailbox,
so Mutt can't get into my mailbox.
So I tried to get in with vi [ # cd vi /usr/nancy/ ] it said “nancy” does not exist. I really want to get into my mailbox file but I haven't been able to find a way!
Meanwhile, my corrupt mailbox is receiving more and more emails in my “mailbox”!
If I can get in this file I could delete the bad emails and maybe that would fix it. Or what would happen if I deleted the whole file?
And how can I delete a mailbox when “nancy” is not a mailbox and “nancy” does not exist.? [CODE] Does anybody out there have a way to get around this thing? Since it has been two months March & April
so far I need to get those emails POPed off the the server and to my inbox on Eudora, so I don't loose them. How can you get into a file when it doesn't have a valid file name?
[CODE]
-rw------- 1 nancy group 21852648 Apr 4 01:00 nancy < this is still growing! > the path for mutt mailboxes
/usr/spool/mail/nancy
/usr/spool/mail/elena
[/ICODE]
/usr/spool/mail/nancy /usr/spool/mail/elena Btw, I use Korn shell ksh (Enter) I can get by with Unix but I am not a expert!
I really need to get my mailbox nancy fixed, so I can reply to all my members etc., people may think I am ignore then... Thank you in Advance, --Nancy
Not sure I understand your problem entirely, but could you save your nancy file to a backup, and then chop it off to zero size (e.g. by >nancy on the command line)?
Later you can work on the backup trying to retrieve as many mails as possible.
The location of the mail box is controlled by the contents of the file "/usr/mmdf/mmdftailor" regardless of whether mmdf or sendmail is the mail processor.
The mail messages in the mailbox are separated with 4 <ctrl>A characters on a line by itself. One at the beginning of the email, and one at the end. So emails in the middle of the file have 2 <ctrl>A lines in a row. You could fix the file using vi, but that may be problematic with a 16mb file.
An alternative is to create a new user in scoadmin, and exit a # prompt.
.
You have now isolated the problem mail box, which you can process using mutt, and nancy's mailbox is cleared of any errors.

Well, the problem is that my mailbox nancy /usr/spool/mail/nancy # mutt -f nancy and it says nancy is not a mailbox, so mutt can't get into my mailbox nancy, And I tried to get in with vi [ # cd vi /usr/nancy/ ] it said “nancy” does not exist. So my mailbox file name is user nancy, but “nancy”can't be the file name because it doesn’t exist and it isn't a mailbox. And RudiC, could you show me how to do a backup for nancy file. Thank you!
[/CODE]

Maby I didn't do your code correctly? I put the code in the way you put it.
Boy this is a mess! I appreciate your help!
ERR /usr/spool/mail/nancy is being read by another session

I think the another session is the new_user, like it is connected to nancy's mailbox ?

Look in /usr/spool/mail. If there is a file named .nancy.pop, remove it.
There is likely also a file in /tmp with a name in the format 12345.12345 ie 2, 5 digit numbers separated by a ".", that is owned by nancy. Should look something like below.
Remove this file also.
Hi,
I have reports that are generated in one server (10.61.1.108), hostname l28bi01. These reports are supposedly sent to a group of email addresses hourly via an email relay server. However, this is not happening.
In sendmail.cf in bi01, the DS Smart Relay Host ip address is:
