WHAT did not work? Please be very specific. Try
Code:
sed -i 's/6738/6740/g' *pepsi*

provided your sed accepts the -i option.

I tried both the post 5 and post 6 but it doesn't work.
Code:
OS : HPUNIX server.

Code:
grep "6738" *pepsi* | xargs sed -i 's/6738/6740/g'

sed: illegal option -- i
Usage: sed [-n] [-e script] [-f source_file] [file...]

I tried this, but this didn't work
Code:
grep "6738" *pepsi* | xargs sed -i 's/6738/6740/g'

Use grep -l to get the file names!
Code:
grep -l "6738" *pepsi* | xargs perl -i -pe 's/6738/6740/g'

The

Code:

Because sed -i is a non-standard extension only available for GNU-sed. My suggestion is to avoid the practice entirely and explicitly use intermediate files.

If you are interested in some background about this and why it is potentially dangerous to use it (as well as perl -i) you might be interested in this article.

I hope this helps.
