The additional code worked perfectly. For the benefit of anyone else needing this output format I will summarize the successful result:

To get directory list output showing file type, username, directory/file size, modified date/time, full file/folder name, all with justified columns and in human readable format enter:

Code:
paste -d' ' \
<(du -hs * | awk -F'\t' '{printf "%8s\n", $1}') \
<(ls -lh | sed 1d)

If you know of any good references for unix syntax creation or linux commands please add it to this post. There is info all over the net but some stuff is much clearer than others to understand and follow.

Thanks again Junior Helper -

P.S. I didnt see your edit for the trailing space code until now; I just tried it and it is even more concise:

To get directory list output showing just directory/file size, modified date/time, full file/folder name, all with justified columns and in human readable format enter:

Code:
paste -d' ' \
<(du -hs * | awk -F'\t' '{printf "%8s\n", $1}') \
<(ls -lh | awk 'NR>1{for (i=6;i<=NF;i++)
if ( ((i==7) && (length($i)==1)) || ((i==8) && (length($i)==4)) ) printf " %s ", $i; else printf "%s ", $i;
print ""}')

Thank you for the explanation of the if line, it will help with learning how statements are formed.
