Looks like inadequate permission in home?

I've seen that when tar finished the backup but failed on a few (minor?) operations.

Robin@On redirecting tar command's standard error and output this stop it from hanging. Seems strange because earlier also tar used to failed and still process used to get stuck Smilie

DGPickett@In order to overcome inadequate home permissions i added "--no-overwrite-dir" while extracting tar which worked but not always.
Code:
 su freebee -c "tar --no-overwrite-dir -xf /tmp/abs_path_file.tar"

Code:
man tar
 --no-overwrite-dir
           preserve metadata of existing directories

Maybe this would work better. I used its more primitive cousin '-o' on old tar. Sometimes ids do not match up between systems, and root ownership is not desirable:
--owner=NAME
